Welcome to the Unorganized Township of Robinson! The Township is located on the western part of Manitoulin Island, the world’s largest fresh water Island, and spans 160 square miles (407 square km) of farm and forested lands between the “big water” of Lake Huron (to the south) and the North Channel of Lake Huron (to the north). The Township has a year-round population of approximately 60 households that doubles in the summer months.
Robinson is located on the traditional lands of the Anishinabek people, the ancestral gathering place of the Odawa, Ojibwa and Potawatomi peoples. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1800s where they established a vibrant community based on forestry, commercial fishing, and agriculture.
Silver Water, located on Highway 540 adjacent to Nineteen Lake, is Robinson’s largest community and home to its Recreational Centre, Fire Department, St. Andrew’s United Church, and local businesses.
The Township also hosts two of the foremost protected natural areas in Ontario: The Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Mnidoo Mnissing Provincial Park and the Vidal Bay Forest and Shoreline protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
